Watches

Watches have been around for a few centuries now. To most of us, watches are a necessity. Some people never take their watches off. There are many different kinds and types of watches all with different functions. Some just want a watch as a means of telling time, whereas others use their watches as multifunction pieces of jewelry. As far as jewelry goes, watches are probably the most important piece of jewelry there is.

The type of watch you get will depend on a couple of different facts. Cost will be one fact and what you want in a watch will be next. Prices vary from a just a $1 or $2 up to thousands of dollars, depending on what you want in a watch and what brand you want. To some, having an expensive brand name watch is important, but others just want a basic timepiece. To a child, getting their "first" wristwatch is a treat, even if they can't yet tell time. Manufacturers of watches have been able to capitalize on this by making children's watches in the latest superhero faces and bands such as
Superman, Spiderman, Star Wars, Barbie, etc.

There are three types of watches are analog and digital. An analog watch is a watch that has hands. Some may have a second hand that moves in one continuous clockwise motion. The motion that watches make is where the phrases "clockwise" and "counterclockwise" came from. An analog watch is the best type of watch for a child to learn how to tell time. The hour hand (shorter one) and minute (hand) make it easier for a child to learn what time it is. Analogs were the first type of watches.

Digital watches show the time with the use of numerals. They are operated with a small battery inside just as the analog watches are. Digitals are very popular and were the latest craze when they first came out. An anidigi watch has the numbers on the face as well as a digital display. Pocket watches were used many years ago when watches were first manufactured. Most male workers had pocket watches that clipped on their belts so they wouldn't get lost. After a few years, they lost some popularity when wristwatches took over. Now, however, pocket watches have gained popularity once again.

A few considerations when you are purchasing a watch is the features and the materials used to make the watch. Some materials are precious metals, titanium, aluminum, stainless steel, carbon fiber and plastic or rubber. Some different features are alarms, stop meters (chronograph), glow in the dark, calendars, water resistant among many other features.
