Girard-Perregaux

The Girard-Perregaux watch company, as it's known today, was originally founded in 1791 in Geneva, Switzerland by a man named J.F. Bautte. In 1837 the company changed hands and went to two men named Jacques Bautte and Jean Samuel Rossel who had picked up a cultural and industrial legacy in their newly owned company. In 1854, Constant Girard and Marie Perregaux were married and from their joining, the Girard-Perregaux company was born two years later in 1856. In 1867, the Girard-Perregaux Watch Company presented one of its lasting classics called Toubillon with three gold Bridges. That masterpiece won the gold medal at the Universal exhibitions of Paris in 1867 and 1889, but couldn't enter in 1901 because the piece could not be equaled. In 1928 a German watch maker named Otto Graef bought out Girard-Perregaux's share capital.

Girard-Perregaux has achieved many milestones over the decades of excellent watch making. In the 1880s Constant Girard developed the wristwatch, but shortly after production, the idea was considered outlandish and discontinued. It wasn't until 1930 when the sales of wristwatches exceeded the sales of pocket watches that Girard's innovative ideas were proven way ahead of his time. In 1966, Girard-Perregaux developed the first high frequency mechanical movement for their watches that had a balance making 36.00 vibrations per hour. In 1969 the G-P factory put out a quartz movement that had a frequency of 32.768 hertz, which is now the universally accepted standard for all watches with quartz movement.

Girard-Perregaux is a true icon in the watch making industry and to this day it's one of the few companies that can claim true manufacture status, which means they actually produce most of the movement pieces used in their watches rather than buying them from other companies. Girard-Perregaux watches come in different elegant styles and designs. The Girard-Perregaux diamond watch is very popular. If you're looking for a Girard-Perregaux watch, be careful not to end up with a fake Girard-Perregaux. There are quite a few replica Girard-Perregaux watches out there and it's hard to tell the difference between a replica and an authentic G-P. You can find a vintage Girard-Perregaux online if you do a search for Girard-Perregaux. You can also visit the Girard-Perregaux homepage where you will find a more complete listing of timepieces available, and prices for their collections. Their quality pieces are sure to please and will add glam to anyone's wardrobe.
